We've gathered together the questions people most often ask about wrapping presents with fabric. If your question is not answered here, please call or text us on +44 7909 904685 or email contact@cabbanandco.com

Can Fabric Gift Wrap be washed?

Definitely yes. Both the cotton wrapping cloth and the satin ribbons can be machine washed. A care label showing the washing instructions is sewn onto each cloth wrap.

  • Detach the Ribbons, place in a mesh bag and machine wash on a delicate cycle at 30⁰ Iron on a low heat.
  • Wash the cloth wrapping with your other cottons at 30⁰C and iron on a high heat.

How do I store fabric gift wrap?

Keeping the ribbons attached, fold the cloth into a rectangle or square and wrap the ribbons around the outside. Pull out the care label so the size is visible for the next time you use it.

We store ours in zip-lock bags: We have one bag for each size - Small, Medium, Large and Extra Large. We label the bag on the outside too.

How can I ask for the wrapping back?

In Japan, the fabric used to wrap presents; Furoshiki, is traditionally returned to the giver with thanks. As giving presents in reusable fabric wrapping instead of single-use wrapping paper is quite a new ‘thing’, we need to introduce this etiquette into our culture. We’re starting this off by giving you a free, formal way of asking for the fabric wrapping back…. without having to actually ask. We call it an “Etiquette Tag”; it’s a reusable cloth tag explaining this new Reusable Wrapping Etiquette by politely requesting the receiver to return the wrap to you. Just loop it through the ribbons on the outside of the gift and let it do the work for you.

Unique Etiquette Tag to ask for your Fabric Gift Wrap back. Please adopt the Japanese tradition of returning this wrap to the giver, with thanks.

How do I wrap presents in fabric so they look as good as if they were in wrapping paper?

We have a full page on this website dedicated to showing you how to wrap gifts beautifully in Fabric. We have videos, illustrations and wordy explanations of how to wrap presents in cloth. If you’ve had a look at the videos and are still not sure, test it out with a tea towel or cloth napkin. Try wrapping something simple like your phone or a recipe book. Now imagine it with beautiful red ribbon holding it together.

Does the fabric wrapping become part of the gift?

We give you the option of including the gift wrap as part of your present or help you to ask for the wrapping back. The free and unique “Etiquette Tag” that comes with your fabric wrapping is a reusable cloth tag that politely requests the receiver to return the wrap to you. If you’d like to give away the wrap as part of your gift, just leave the etiquette tag off. If you’d prefer it to be returned, loop it through the ribbons on the outside of the gift.

What size Gift Wrap do I use?

It can be tricky when you are using fabric to wrap presents for the first time. We offer 4 sizes of square fabric wrapping cloths: Small (30cm), Medium (50cm), Large (75cm) & Extra Large (100cm).

Please look at the size guide page on this website; there are lots of examples of gifts that fit each wrapping size and we suggest you use your hand width (which is roughly 10cm across the knuckles) to help you measure the longest side of your gift.

If the gift is less than 1 ½ hand widths, you need a SMALL

If the gift is about 2 ½ hand widths, you need a MEDIUM

If the gift is about 4 hand widths, you need a LARGE

If the gift is about 5 hand widths, you need an EXTRA LARGE

If you are not sure, experiment at home; buy a Small, Medium and Large wrap in any mix of fabrics and get free shipping and £5 off (Enter promo code SML at the checkout).
